National Small Business Week

National Small Business Week is April 29 to May 5, 2018. The Small Business Administration is planning numerous events such as a Virtual Conference and Twitter chat. The SBA will also be livestreaming award ceremonies including the announcement of the National Small Business Person of the Year. Awardees for the following, except for the Small Business Person of the Year, were announced on March 20 by the SBA Administrator Linda McMahon and invited to Washington for the presentation:

  • Small Business Person of the Year (one from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virgin Islands, and Guam ) – announced March 12
  • Exporter of the Year
  • Phoenix Awards for Disaster Recovery (Small Business, Public Official, Volunteer)
  • Federal Procurement Awards (Small Business Prime, Small Business Subcontractor, Dwight D. Eisenhower Awards for Excellence, and 8a Graduate of the Year.
  • Awards to SBA Resource Partners (SBDC Excellence and Innovation Center Award, Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award, and Veteran’s Business Outreach Center of the Year Award)
  • Jody C. Raskind Lender of the Year Award
  • Small Business Investment Company of the Year

Charles W. Underwood II, Owner of C&R Movers, LLC, in Montgomery was the Alabama Small Business Person of the Year winner.

Local events celebrating business during the next couple of weeks include theĀ 2018 NDIA-TVC Annual Awards Program on April 24 and The Catalyst 4th Annual Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Event on May 1.
